REVIEW: "Sleeping Beauty" Diamond Edition Blu-ray

SB

“Sleeping Beauty” is out of the vault and on Diamond Edition Blu-ray! Each Diamond Edition superset includes Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy. This is the first time it is released on Digital HD. What is Digital HD you ask? It is an amazing high definition picture with surround sound that makes the whole movie pop. In other words, the ultimate in technology!

I really love this Disney classic and the brilliant colors and background scenes are one of the best Disney has ever created. I am a little bias since Maleficent is one of my favorite villains.  I could watch this movie over and over just for all the wonderful artwork that encompasses it. If you have never seen “Sleeping Beauty” it is a story of a princess who is cursed by an evil fairy, Maleficent. She is then protected by three good fairies and becomes saved by the ultimate true love’s kiss. Sleeping Beauty” is Disney’s sixteenth animated feature was the last animated feature produced by Walt Disney to be based upon a fairy tale.

One of the great features of the Diamond Edition is the variety of bonus features. There are so many! “Once Upon A Parade,” in which “Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland tells us the tale of Walt Disney World’s new Festival Of Fantasy Parade, “Art of Evil: Generations Of Disney Villains,” a legacy piece spotlighting Disney’s favorite villain animator and Maleficent creator Marc Davis, and “@DisneyAnimation: Artists in Motion,” in which Walt Disney Animation Visual Development artist Brittney Lee goes through the process of creating a three dimensional sculpture of Maleficent, completely out of paper.

There is also all- new bonus features with three never-before-seen deleted scenes. “The Fair, “The Curse is Fulfilled” and “Arrival Of Maleficent,” plus the Beauty-Oke sing-along to “Once Upon A Dream.” For all you movie buffs out there you will like the audio commentary by John Lasseter, Andreas Deja and Leonard Maltin.

I really enjoyed the Art of Evil: Generations Of Disney Villains with creator Marc Davis. He is one of my favorite animators from Disney Studios. I love the old footage of stories of how he created certain characters and all the work that goes into it. Disney history is always the best history.

I am so happy to have this set added to my Disney collection. Blu-ray always has the best levels of interactivity and customization of the films on their format.  If you love Disney classic animated films this is a must own for you.

REVIEW: "Maleficent" on Blu-ray

On November 4th my favorite villain “Maleficent” debuts on Disney Blu-ray Combo Pack! Insert spooky laugh here! This wicked tale stars Angelina Jolie as Maleficent in all her frightfulness in the twisted depiction of “Sleeping Beauty”.  I must warn you if you think it’s going to be exactly the story of the animated feature it’s not. It’s told from Maleficent’s point of view. I really enjoyed where they took the story of her life as a child and how she grew up. It then leads into how a neighboring kingdom threatens her land in the forest, which causes her to put a curse on Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning).

It all comes to the tale of the spinning wheel, well you know.  I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this movie because of other live action remakes that I was just meh about. This movie is spellbinding, full of awesome special effects and a different view of the classic “Sleeping Beauty”.

This Blu-ray Combo Pack has all-new bonus features that include behind-the-scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, and special viewings on filmmaking magic.

  • From Fairy Tale to Feature Film– Reimagining Maleficent for a new generation as viewed from the cast and crew.
  • Building An Epic Battle– How they created the special effects for the fight scene between Maleficent and King Henry’s Forces
  • Classic Couture– A look at all the details that went into making Maleficent’s captivating head wraps and jewelry.
  • Maleficent Revealed– Discover the levels of how they make the extraordinary special effects. You can view the concept art, visual effects and behind the scene shots.
  • Aurora: Becoming A Beauty– Elle Fanning talks about her love of Disney’s original animated classic and how this was a dream come true experience for her to play Aurora.

Deleted Scenes:

o   “Stefan In King’s Chamber”

o   “Pixie Idiots”

o   “Diaval asks about the Curse”

o   “Pixies Seek Asylum”

o   “Suitor”

I  really enjoyed this movie and all of the great special effects. It keeps you on the edge of your seat with what will happen next. Will Maleficent turn out to be a better person? GASP! You may never know. Even if you are not a fan of Disney movies, you will like “Maleficent”.

Listen here  to Krystal & I review  “Into The Woods” on our podcast, Designed by Magic.

This is not your typical storyline of fairy tales you grew up reading about or watching in your favorite movies. “Into The Woods” is a modern twist on all of these tales with LOTS of singing. This enchanted adventure of notable characters: Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, the Baker and his wife and the creepy Witch are all connected to enter the scary, woods. REVIEW: Be Whisked Away With "Cinderella" on Blu-ray

0
0

Cinderella2015 Bluray

At first when I heard they would be making a live action version of “Cinderella” I didn’t know what to think. How would they be able to capture all of the magic, drama and whimsy of the fairy tale story that every girl adores? I have to say they did a magnificent job! All of the details were brought to life and they “plus it” as Walt Disney used to say.

Ben Chaplin is Cinderella's father and Hayley Atwell is Cinderella's mother in Disney's live-action CINDERELLA, directed by Kenneth Branagh.

This “Cinderella” story starts off a little bit earlier than the original. We get an inside view of Cinderella when she was really young growing up with her loving parents. I really enjoyed seeing Cinderella’s mother since we don’t know anything about her in the animated version of the film. Her father is a merchant and is gone for long periods of time. When he returns home his family is happily there greeting him. Their little family is very kind and allows her to be fun, imaginative and love magical things. When her mother grows ill she makes Cinderella promise her to be kind and to have courage. She will carry this with her throughout the entire movie. After the death of her father she is forced to withstand unjust cruelty from her stepmother and stepsisters.

Cate Blanchett is the Stepmother in Disney's live-action feature CINDERELLA, directed by Kennth Branagh.

Cinderella is forced to be the sole caretaker of the estate and withstand being treated so badly from Lady Tremaine and her stepsisters. It is uncomfortable to watch as they berate her and treat her like dirt. Seeing this in real human form makes it worse and ring true to the meanness in people. It really is sad to see this behavior. Cate Blanchett plays the role of Lady Tremaine so boldly and with real villain quality. As a subplot we get to see why she acts the way she does and what drives her to be so mean. That wicked laugh!!! Ugh. The stepsisters Drisella and Anastasia are in loud outfits and wildly annoying.  They are always about themselves and being ridiculous in their usual ways.

Lily James is Cinderella, Holliday Grainger is Anastasia and Sophie McShera is Drisella in Disney's live-action feature inspired by the classic fairy tale, CINDERELLA, which brings to life the timeless images from Disney's 1950 animated masterpiece as fully-realized characters in a visually dazzling spectacle for a whole new generation.

Some other differences of this version of the film is the way Cinderella meets the Prince. She is her own self without the glitz and glamour. He presents himself to her in the same way. It’s like they are remaining true to themselves while flirting with one another. This shows that women can be independent and have courage to get their point across in any situation by being yourself.

Helena Bonham Carter is the Fairy Godmother and Lily james is Cinderella in Disney's live-action feature inspired by the classic fairy tale, CINDERELLA, directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Usually my favorite scene in Cinderella is her transformation into the beautiful ball gown and how she spins around in it looking at herself in the fountain’s reflection. In this version I love the ballroom scene when she is dancing with the Prince. She looks gorgeous! You can see how they are falling in love with each other during their dance. I love how he lifts her up and they dance so elegantly. All of the other characters are dressed in brilliant colored ball gowns from all different periods and international cultures. The stage that they built for this set was extraordinary.  You just want her to get her happy ending and be able to live happily ever after!

Lily James is Cinderella and Richard Madden is the Prince in Disney's live-action feature inspired by the classic fairy tale, CINDERELLA, which brings to life the timeless images from Disney's 1950 animated masterpiece as fully-realized characters in a visually dazzling spectacle for a whole new generation.

Cinderella is a timeless fairy-tale and they did a marvelous job remaking the story in a grand way with real emotion, true life issues and teachings. Being kind and having courage goes a long way and this movie shows that you can get through life’s tough times with that advice.  Remain true to yourself and be real. I love this message and hope you will enjoy this movie as much as I did!

Cinderella is out for release on Disney Blu-ray in stores and is available on Disney Movies Anywhere, iTunes and Google Play.

REVIEW: A Whole New World "Aladdin" on Disney Blu-ray

AladdinDiamondBlurayRev small

Disney’s “Aladdin” Diamond Edition is now on Blu-ray! I must say it’s about time! We all remember this beloved tale from the 90’s about a genie with the funniest jokes ever aka Robin Williams whom we all miss dearly. This is one of those newer Disney classics that beats to a different drum. It’s a fun film and chocked full of magnificent musical numbers that we have grown to love. Lots of emotions, life changes and finding oneself among the silliness and lightness of Genie, Aladdin and Princess Jasmine.

This film has been brushed up into true Blu-ray fashion. The animations look new again and are brought up to today’s technology. There were so many bonus features that I really enjoyed. Genie Outtakes and Aladdin: Creating Broadway Magic were really great. Needless to say I am really excited to add Aladdin to my Disney movie collection!

Review: Visiting “Zootopia”

ZootopiaBlurayCombo

Okay I know what you are thinking…another Disney film. Another box office smash of numbers and what the heck is this movie about animals with clothes on? Yup, that would be “Zootopia”, but not just another Disney film this is a comedy-adventure with an underlying message of soul searching and pulling off the unthinkable. A city where all different mammals of predator vs prey cohabitate. Disney did their research and then dug deep into their imagination caps. They went to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and to the country of Africa. They designed a world where they take different animal personalities and bring them into the movie. All the animals are intermingled, but stay in their own type of world. Sort of like the subsections of major cities. Each selection of animal types fit into each character role and personality.

null

What was amazing about this movie is the scale to be true to life size of the animals. They celebrate what makes each animal different. How the animals would behave and how they would live in that city. How would they design it and that is what makes it unique about this world called Zootopia. With all the camera directions and scenes they are constantly surprising you with how they play the scale as true as they can with the height of a giraffe and how they would walk. How little mice would cross the street with elephants. Developing systems that let all these different sized animals live together.

A WORLD FOR BIG AND SMALL — Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Zootopia" features a vast world where humans never existed. With advanced transportation systems that accommodate mammals of all shapes and sizes, the modern mammal metropolis was built by animals for animals. Directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, and produced by Clark Spencer, "Zootopia" opens in U.S. theaters on March 4, 2016. ©2016 Disney. All Rights Reserved.

I love how they made different boroughs for each part of Zootopia and how each one is totally different from the next. It’s designed by climate and environments like a natural ecosystem and it flows together.

ZOOTOPIA ZOOTOPIA

With the new technology in movie making each year it gets more and more advanced. I can’t believe how far they have come with the feel and look of the animal characters. You can see the richness of their fur and all the different colors of it. So surreal!

As for the story line we get to go into the mind and life of Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin). A bunny investing in the dream of becoming the first bunny police officer and how amazing Zootopia is to her. A bunch of life circumstances are stacked up against her. Even the most good-natured person can be susceptible to putting stereotypes on another person and she needs to see through it to get to her outcomes. Determined to prove herself, she finds the opportunity to crack an unsolved case working with a scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman). This case leads them to a hard situation that Zootopia population is being torn apart by unseen forces to turn predators and prey against one another.

I would recommend this film not only because it was a great comedy-adventure movie with an interesting story line but if not only for the amusement of seeing how if animals were really living in a humanesque world what it would look like! I am going to leave you with a quote from the strong willed Judy Hopps and hope it will strike something within you.

“Real life to live it is more complicated than a slogan on a bumper sticker. Real life is messy, we have limitations. We all make mistakes which means hey glass half-full, we all have a lot in common. The more we try to understand one another, the more exceptional each of us will be.

But we have to try. So no matter what type of animal you are. I implore you to try. Try to make the world a better place. Look inside yourself and recognize that change starts with you. It’s with me. It starts with all of us.”

“Zootopia” is released on Disney Blu-ray, Digital HD and DVD on June 7th, 2016 and has lots of bonus features you don’t want to miss!

Review: Disney•Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” Blu-Ray

0
0

I have been waiting 14 years to find out what became of Disney’s favorite animated super hero family, The Parrs aka The Incredibles. In this action packed sequel “Incredibles 2” they pick up right where the first movie left off. It is an action packed storyline with so many adventures that each super hero character must face. Not to mention lots of laughs as well. Edna Mode is such a fabulous character and I couldn’t wait to see her again in all her fashion amazingness.

Incredibles 2 Bluray

“Incredibles 2” is like a 007 movie animated when Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is asked to lead a campaign to bring Supers back which means Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) will be holding down the fort at home with ‘normal” life with kids Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack. Wait until you see what super powers Jack-Jack has!

Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible.

One thing I really enjoy about collecting Blu-ray movies is the bonus features. It’s so cool to find out how they made the movie with behind the scenes looks and commentary. “Incredibles 2” on Blu-ray has so many to choose from!
